Role:

 

This role sits within our dedicated Energy and Sustainability Services department, forming part of the Technical Energy and Carbon Services (TECS) team, which works with leading commercial real estate investors and occupiers to develop innovative global zero carbon strategies and advise on green building certification(s) and compliance. Energy and Sustainability Services comprises teams across TECS, ESG Consulting, Renewables and E-Mobility.

 

Our services include the development of net zero pathways and decarbonisation strategies, we provide technical advice on building energy efficiency, EPCs, MEES, ESOS, BREEAM In-Use & Energy Surveys (operational and thermographic).

 

As a Technical Energy Consultant, you will produce technical audits and reports to support the delivery of our clients net zero ambitions. The ideal candidate will be a qualified EPC assessor (or willing to undergo this training) and have experience in delivering carbon reduction strategies within the real estate sector.

 

The successful candidate should have a holistic knowledge of energy efficiency, energy management, energy/carbon compliance requirements and current trends for the decarbonisation of the built environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The Technical Energy Consultant will be required to undertake (including but not limited to):

 

  • Undertaking energy surveys and delivering sustainability services of a technical nature; including EPC certificates, Energy Audits, Net Zero Carbon Audits, ESOS reports.
  • Familiar with BREEAM In-use, including its delivery and ideally act as an in-use assessor.
  • Utilise these certificates, reports and building models to develop net zero pathway action plans.
  • Analyse energy profiles, assessing performance, generating insights and reporting.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge associated with carbon legislation, regulation, certifications, and the wider sustainability agenda to ensure that clients are fully informed.
  • Contribute to wider engagement with department heads and their teams; making sure they are aware of the latest developments and opportunities for their clients.
  • Provide general energy/carbon related support on EPC/EPC Plus & MEES, ESOS, Operational Energy savings, sustainability reporting and certification, tenant engagement, ISO14001 & ISO50001, (referring where necessary to the wider team).
  • Support assets undergoing assessments as necessary, including: EPCs, ESOS, BREEAM NABERS, etc.
  • Actively engage in the development of pitch material and communicate through formal presentations and informal interactions.
  • Produce written reports to a high standard.
  • Build relationships with existing and new clients, identify opportunities, and assist in securing future business for the company. Be seen by clients as a trusted advisor and a subject matter expert.

 

Skills & knowledge

 

The ideal candidate would possess skills and experience in the following areas:

 

  • Understanding of energy services and experience conducting energy audits.
  • Certified EPC assessor up to level 5 or desire to upskill.
  • Experience with delivery of BREEAM In-Use.
  • Practical experience delivering operational energy savings within existing buildings via e.g., BMS optimisation and specifying projects such as VSDs, LEDs and controls etc.
  • Legislative/regulatory drivers such as MEES and ESOS.
  • NZC standards and frameworks e.g., CRREM, UKGBC, LETI, NABERS, REEB etc.
  • Ability to determine the value proposition of projects through assessment of benefits e.g., financial, resilience, obsolescence.
  • Interest in innovation and technology (knowledge of cloud based BMS analytics platforms would be an advantage).
  • Entrepreneurial self-starter who can help drive this growing business area.
  • Willingness to help develop junior members of the team.
  • Completely IT literate with high level of competence in Microsoft Office and Energy modelling software such as DesignBuilder or IES.
  • Excellent time management. Can deliver work under pressure and to fixed deadlines.
  • Ability to problem solve and manage multiple priorities.
  • Resourceful team worker, with ability to be autonomous in certain specialist fields.

 

Required experience.

 

  • Working towards a professional qualification CIBSE, IEMA or similar.
  • At least 2 years’ experience within a related energy/carbon field.
  • Good communication and client interaction skills.
  • Good English, grammar, spelling, and document checking skills.
