The UK Business Services team / sub-division comprises c350 employees covering core central functions including Accounts & Tax, Human Resources, IT, Marketing and Risk and Compliance. 

This role will work closely with the COO and Business Services department heads to provide financial analysis and commercial recommendations which will help to shape strategy and key decisions.  You will provide regular analysis including actual vs plan spend on general overheads and projects and early identification of cost overrun or savings. You will be responsible for ensuring the Business Services budget and reforecasts are delivered during the planning periods as well as working with the Management Accounts, HR Operations, and Projects Teams amongst others to deliver accurate reporting. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsibility for managing the financial reporting and analysis for the Business Services team, working closely with the COO, Business Services department heads and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with primary stakeholders and their teams
  • Developing clear and concise management information to present to the Business Services Operations Board (comprising the Group FD, COO and Heads of Business Services Departments).
  • Identification of key performance indicators, trends and issues based on sound understanding of the relevant data
  • Ensuring that the Business Services department heads understand their budgets and forecasts and actual performance against them.
  • Close liaison with the Projects Portfolio Accountant and Head of the Projects Management Department to ensure clear reporting on project spend and deliverables and the implications on running costs as projects move to business as usual operations.
  • Identify and drive process improvements to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Analysing data to provide commercial advice and guidance on business strategy and operational performance against set targets to support and improve decision making.
  • Ad-hoc business projects, particularly assessment of the costs / benefits of initiatives.
  • The regular cycle will include:
    • Running annual Business Services budget and re-forecast process.
    • Producing monthly financial summaries and commentaries for inclusion in the management accounts and presentation at the Business Services Operations Board
    • Recommend actions and highlighting issues by analysing and interpreting data
    • Liaising closely with Human Resources on employee data, particularly for budgeting and forecasting accuracy as HR data is linked to the financial forecasting systems.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience of financial analysis, with strong analytical skills and commercial understanding.
  • Excellent communication skills – the role requires the ability to communicate financial data to non-finance staff at all levels within the sub-division and presenting up to the Business Services Operations Board.
  • Experience of supporting and challenging non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with wider team members
  • The ability to provide commercial advice and guidance, assisting business decision making, strategy and planning.
  • Consultative approach, with excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Project management / co-ordination skills to manage the annual budget cycle
  • Financial modelling.

Qualifications

 

  • Qualified Accountant  - CIMA, ACA or ACCA (or equivalent)

 

       Systems & IT competence

 

  • Experience of SAP, BPC and Business Objects preferable
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Aptitude to learn new systems quickly and explain them to others
