A great opportunity has arisen to join us here at Knight Frank, and we are currently seeking a Building Surveyor to join our Building Consultancy team based in our Bristol office. In this role, you will undertake a wide range of instructions across the building consultancy on a range of commercial property.


In the Building Surveyor role, you will be responsible for:


  • Increasing the range and quantity of instructions via business generation
  • Monitoring all correspondence and enquiries on behalf of others as and when required
  • Attending all events to promote the department and firm amongst clients and professional organizations
  • Understanding the need to work commercially to ensure profitability of instructions
  • Project management, contract administration, and preparing specifications
  • Preparing and checking Schedules of Conditions, defects analysis and building pathology, as well as Pre-acquisition surveys and technical due diligence
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and CDM
  • Communicating fully with all stakeholders concerned to ensure that business is managed in an efficient and professional manner
  • Absorbing all aspects of information technology systems particular to the department
  • Clearly defining client’s requirements
  • Maintaining confidentiality in respect of all work undertaken by the department and to be aware of sensitive information
  • Being a key and active member of the team and office, working alongside other surveying disciplines to deliver instructions for a range of clients


To be successful in the Building Surveyor role, you will have the following skills and experience:


  • RICS qualified
  • Experience with AutoCad and preparation of drawings on AutoCad is preferred, although not essential
  • Ability to measure buildings in accordance with RICS Code of Practice
  • Basic understanding of JCT Contracts, and a full understanding of the components of commercial buildings / ability to describe the constructional elements
  • Ability to produce reports and the ability to communicate facts clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Capacity for accuracy, attention to detail, and an orderly approach to work and numeracy
  • The personality to engage with other professionals and the public in promoting the firm and building profile in a professional manner
  • Ability to manage own diary and time requirements in order to adhere to all deadlines for the completion of work
